In June 2015, four TC Squared actors from the GWTP ensemble – Ines De La Cruz, Elyas Harris, Laura Menzie and Josh Santora – were invited to Letchworth, England (just north of London), for a 10-day Residency to work with high school seniors from the Da Vinci School of Creative Enterprise. Artistic Director Rosalind Thomas-Clark, Executive Producer and Dramaturg Susan Werbe, and Project Coordinator Lynn Clark were part of the Boston group. The experience was nothing short of amazing!

Our four Teaching Artists – in the roles of actor, writer and director – each worked with a small group of students to create a new piece that echoed the themes in our original World War 1 piece. The four sections were: The Media in War; Women in War; Children in War; and The Modern War Machine – Drones. Four short videos were created, and action, music, scripts and props came together to create a powerful and moving piece that transitioned seamlessly from our GWTP performance into one whole experience for our audiences. The Talk Backs after each show were both thought provoking and motivating.

Saying goodbye was hard! We had all come to respect, trust and love each other in a way that often happens in theatre with such an intense period of working together. In addition, our four artists gained a new perspective on life in England with the chance to explore the local area, Cambridge and London while they were there, and the opportunity to explore the culture and the food.

Our GWTP performances continue this fall with more schools’ shows, plus a public performance at the Emmanuel Center, Newbury Street, Boston. We will remember the centenary of World War I on November 8th at 4pm. We welcome you to attend!
